The Neuroscience programme at HKU is thoughtfully crafted to equip students for a diverse range of opportunities in both academia and industry within the interdisciplinary field. Personally, I really enjoyed my classes and research experience, which ultimately motivated me to pursue a PhD in Computation and Neural Systems at Caltech. For those fascinated by exploring the intricacies of the nervous system at the convergence of psychology, biology, and cognitive science, this programme offers an exceptional and unparalleled option for your academic journey. Good luck!

I started out as the second cohort (2018-2019) of the Neuroscience major. I still remember it was a bit intimidating to be an early cohort of a new programme, but at the same time it was also exciting to explore various topics of the brain through cross-disciplinary lectures, seminars, and research internships. It was fascinating to learn theories in class, as well as having the opportunity to experience hands-on research. Since then, the thought of having a career in brain research has never left me. After graduation, I've had a short stint in youth organisation and HK's startup space, and now I'm resuming my academic pathway and expecting to start my Master's degree in Edinburgh in 2023. I'm excited by the computational techniques used in brain research and I hope that one day I could contribute :)

I was in the inaugural cohort of the neuroscience programme, and it was undoubtedly exactly what I was looking for from my degree. The programme offered interdisciplinary courses, encompassing cognitive sciences, biomedical sciences, philosophy, and computational knowledge, allowing me to tailor my education to my interests. The faculty were incredibly supportive as I navigated through the new course, reminding me of the choices I had and encouraging me to opt for courses and internships that were aligned with the knowledge and skills I was seeking to develop. I felt ever more curious about the human brain by the end of my undergraduate degree and felt confident enough in my skills to explore the field to pursue a PhD at the Computational Psychopathology Lab. I am now going into my final year of my PhD at The University of Oxford. Thanks to the well-rounded preparation from HKU's neuroscience programme, I now conduct research with experimental psychologists, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, philosophers, engineers, and mathematicians.
